Increasing the Marauders Speed
Hi
For a while now i have been pondering over the lack of speed from the marauder, the bike is adequate around town but once out and about getting anywhere is a bit of a drag.
I have come to 2 conclusions: 1, get another bike or 2, change the rear sprocket.
Option 2 is definately the way forward for me, though I had hit a snag. like they don't produce smaller rear sprockets for the marauder at all.
Ok so you can't replace the rear sprocket with an off the shelf item.
But what i'm gonna do is replace both front and rear sprockets and the chain for 520 versions.
After some exhaustive internet research on the JT sprocket site, i've found out that the Suzuki GT200 front sprocket will fit and the Marauder 250 rear sprocket will as well and comes in 39 & 41 teeth as opposed to the 45 teeth we have at present. Coupled with a nice shiney new 520 chain I reckon the marauder will do 70.

Hi James,T
I already run with a 17 toother on the front, 16 is quite usable though probably more so than the 17 i'm running as top gear is just for bimbling with no discernable pick up.

Re: Increasing the Marauders Speed
I think on my bike 1st gear is a bit off waste of space as i can easily take off in 2Nd.

Re: Increasing the Marauders Speed
Big Fail
The 520 stuff, new front sprocket size 15 and rear sprocket size 37 makes the bike slower!!!!
Effectively the stuff is about 15-20 percent bigger than 428 so the rear sprocket is bigger in diameter than the standard 45 rear, the 15 front is slightly bigger than the 17 already running and the new top speed is now 40.
It will be stripped off and discarded to the confines of my shed.
Back to the drawing board.....

Re: Increasing the Marauders Speed
Hi James
You need a 26mm socket and a long bar, I use the sit on the bike hold the brake and turn the nut on the sprocket method because you dont want the back wheel to turn. The nut is torqued up at the factory, I think about 80-90Nm which is bloody tight.
